Program Overview

This minor is designed for students who want to gain proficiency in the scientific study of behavioral and cognitive neuroscience. Students seeking a minor in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience will develop a Plan of Study in consultation with a departmental adviser.

Ralph Noble

Ralph Noble is an associate professor in the Department of Cognitive Science.  His research has explored Evolutionary Psychology and Behavioral Endocrinology with a focus on the neuroendocrine control of sensory motor systems.  Currently, his interests include the psychology of games and modeling bureaucratic control systems.

Isabella Venezia

Major: Cognitive Science and Computer science

While looking around for majors, I was so torn between doing something with psychology, something with neurology, or something with tech. Then, I saw the RPI cognitive science course. It helped me decide my major and my school in one swoop! After graduation, I want to work with language learning apps and AI surrounding them to make language access easier for the whole world.

Fan Xiye

Major: Cognitive Science and Computer Science

I chose this major because I took Prof Bram's Mind and Machine. The course is very interesting and inspiring, it sparked my interest in discovering the relationship between the human mind and machinery computation, I decided to dual major in COGS immediately after I took that course.
I'm applying to Ph.D. programs in both CS and COGS right now, desiring to keep working on related research.

Favorite Class: I would say COGNITION AND THE BRAIN.

Rumeysa Kara

Major: Cognitive Science and Computer Science

I chose to dual major in Computer Science and Cognitive Science due to my interest in the intersection of these disciplines. The convergence of human cognition and artificial intelligence. Looking ahead, I want to contribute to development in brain-machine interfaces and advanced machine learning algorithms.

Adrian Connor

Major: Philosophy and Biology

Minor: Music

I chose biology and philosophy because it's the culmination of the human experience. Our brains are built from biology, but understanding ourselves with science and bettering our lives requires deep philosophical thought. After graduation, I am pursuing either a PhD in molecular biology/genetics or medical school, and I hope to bring my background in ethics with me wherever I go.

Zisi Blades

Major: PSYS and Business and Management

I’m really interested in human behavior and love solving problems. At the beginning of my freshman year, I intended to major in Business and Management and minor in Psychological Science. I ended up enjoying my psychology courses so much that I decided to double major. After graduation plan to work in consulting and go to graduate school. I hope to apply the knowledge I gain and my passion for problem solving to help organizations overcome obstacles and remove inefficiencies.

Emrah Aktunc

Mahir Emrah Aktunc received his master's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa and his Ph.D. from the Science and Technology Studies program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In his scholarly work, Dr. Aktunc strives to develop an interdisciplinary trajectory of empirical and philosophical work employing methods and theories of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of science. Specific research topics include human working memory, evidence and inference in neuroimaging, inductive reasoning, and a new project on symbolic cognition.
