Heng Liu

I am a microeconomic theorist. My research focuses on auctions, mechanism design, and dynamic games. Currently I work on designing dynamic mechanisms that are immune to collusion among participants and on auction problems with asymmetric bidders.

Bruno Nkuiya Mbakop

Dr. Nkuiya joined the Rensselaer faculty as an Assistant Professor of Economics in Fall 2023. He obtained his PhD in Economics  from the University of Montreal and worked for several institutions including University of California Santa Barbara and University of Alberta. His research specializes in understanding how natural resource users respond to changes in environmental and political conditions and mechanisms to promote conservation and recovery.

Arturo Estrella

Arturo Estrella has published extensively in various fields within economics, including macroeconomic theory, empirical macroeconomics, monetary policy, financial regulation, econometric theory, applied econometrics, and financial markets, instruments, and institutions. “I like to look at how the financial sector interacts with the real economy. For example, interest rates and stock prices incorporate information about investor expectations of future real economic activity and inflation.

Vivek Ghosal

Dr. Ghosal is Professor and Department Head of Economics, and Virginia and Lloyd W. Rittenhouse Chaired Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences. He was the Acting Dean, School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, from January-July 2023.

Sarah Greene

Sarah Greene received her PhD in Ecological Economics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2008 with research focused on the microeconomic theory and practice of Daniel Kahneman’s concept of Experienced Utility applied to poverty and underdevelopment in Central America.  Dr.

Rui Fan

My research primarily focuses on the analysis of nonstationary time series data and its applications in economics and finance, including financial market forecasting, risk management, and systemic risk assessment. I am also dedicated to developing robust statistical methods for causal analysis.  Additionally, I explore applied econometrics across various domains in economics and finance, such as health policy evaluation, firm strategies, and natural resource management.

Robert Jones

Dr. Jones earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MBA from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration (Rochester), and a JD from University of Albany Law School. His research and public speaking efforts focus on the intersection of finance, law, and economics, including areas related to valuation of financial assets, forensic economics, and copyright law. Dr. Jones writes and speaks frequently on matters relating to the valuation of closely held businesses.

Nishtha Langer

Nishtha Langer is an Associate Professor of Business Analytics (with tenure) at the Lally School of Management, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She also holds a joint appointment as the Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at RPI.

Mina Mahmoudi

Dr. Mahmoudi joined the faculty of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Fall 2019. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from University of Nevada, Reno in 2017 with research focused on applied macroeconomics.
