Mahir Emrah Aktunc received his master's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa and his Ph.D. from the Science and Technology Studies program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In his scholarly work, Dr. Aktunc strives to develop an interdisciplinary trajectory of empirical and philosophical work employing methods and theories of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of science. Specific research topics include human working memory, evidence and inference in neuroimaging, inductive reasoning, and a new project on symbolic cognition. Before joining RPI, he has taught in the U.S. and Turkiye, with a teaching portfolio including undergraduate and graduate courses in cognitive science, research methods and statistics, logic and philosophy of science, and learning. When he is not teaching or reading, he enjoys watching films, especially documentaries, and dabbling in classical guitar.
