Biography and Research

Area of Research/Interest:
Systems thinking and feedback structures; neurodivergent ways of knowing; expanded cinema, from analog media to Touch Designer; non-coloniality and Whiteness; the mind sciences, particularly 4E Cognition and Participatory Sense-Making; the Light and Space Movement; diagrams; absurdism.

Biography
Allison Leigh Holt is an artist, a Fulbright scholar, and the first person in their household to graduate high school. They have held residencies at Alfred's Institute for Electronic Art, EMPAC, Djerassi, the Cemeti Institute for Art and Society (Indonesia), Bullseye Glass Company, and the Experimental Television Center; and resident researcher roles at the Santa Barbara Center for Art, Science and Technology and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Notable exhibitions include Eye Filmmuseum (The Netherlands), BAMPFA, Stanford University, SFMOMA, Ford Foundation Gallery, Ann Arbor Film Festival, The Exploratorium, Cemeti (solo, Indonesia), and North Dakota Museum of Art (solo). They have presented at Stanford Arts Institute; FEMeeting (Canada); RIXC Art-Science Festival (Latvia); After Agency (Poland); Video Vortex (Indonesia); American Anthropological Association Conference; Yogyakarta International New Media Festival; the University of North Dakota Writers Conference (with Kim Stanley Robinson and Brian Greene); and the Mind & Life Summer Research Institute. Holt’s writing features in journals such as Panorama, Public, Leonardo, and Yale’s Theater Magazine, and they developed Neurodivergent Media, an experimental media pedagogy for autistics. They are a current Lucas Arts Fellow at Montalvo Art Center.
