Major: COMD

Minor: Video, Performance, and Social Practice

I chose to be a COMD major because I highly enjoy graphic design, and I wanted to incorporate that passion with communication skills. I like to learn about the different mediums in which people pass on information such as through TV advertisements, flyers, film documentaries, and social media posts. After graduation, I hope to use these skills in building my brand as a freelancer, and perhaps become a teacher at some point in my career. I’m not too sure where my passion will take me!

Favorite Class: My favorite class so far has been Communication Theory and Practice with Professor Weina Ran. I’ve enjoyed analyzing documentaries and creating presentations on different forms of communication. I’ve gained a lot of useful knowledge out of this course I continue to use to this day.

Advice: For those coming into RPI as HASS majors, do not be intimidated by the amount of engineers and CS majors. I’ve made friends with many of them, and have gotten along just fine regardless of our different passions. And, despite my lack of knowledge on engineering, I have recently took great interest in 3D modeling and printing through The Forge, which is run by many people in the engineering department. If you are flexible and willing to try new things, you’ll find your place at this school no matter the major you pursue!
