Rachel Gates | Major: Music/GSAS | I decided to choose my majors because I’ve always had a huge passion for interactive audio and music. I’ve always been heavily involved with music growing up, playing instruments and joining groups, but also wanted to learn how to use music and sound to tell stories. I lacked the technological experience, which is a huge reason as to why I wanted to go to RPI. I wanted to learn how to record, edit, and work with sound in settings such as video games, interactive media, studio recordings, and live performance— all of which I’ve been able to participate in during my enrollment.
Rumeysa Kara | Major: Computer Science and Cognitive Science | I chose to dual major in Computer Science and Cognitive Science due to my interest in the intersection of these disciplines. The convergence of human cognition and artificial intelligence. Looking ahead, I want to contribute to development in brain-machine interfaces and advanced machine learning algorithms. | Favorite Class: My favorite class so far was definitely my HASS Inquiry class that I took during my first semester. It was called 'AI & COMPUTING: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE'. Throughout the semester, we engaged in thought-provoking discussions covering a wide range of topics, from the ethical considerations surrounding AI to its historical development and potential future trajectories. The course not only broadened my understanding of AI's technical aspects but also challenged me to consider its impacts on society, economics, and human interaction.
Perry Ghosh | Major: COMD, Business & Management | I chose Communication, Media and Design to further my career in the business of emerging media. I hope to one day manage the business of movies and television within a major entertainment studio. | Favorite Class: My favorite class was Media and Society because of the opportunity to learn more about the different mediums and styles of how media impacts society.
Shashwat Srivastava | Major: Economics - STSO Minor: Finance | I'm an international student from India at RPI. I am an Economics - STSO dual major. I chose economics as my major as I was always interested in learning about businesses, firm decision-making & performance indicators and global economy. After graduation, I am looking forward to work as an Investment Banker, hopefully at a renowned company! | Favorite Class: My favourite class so far was Intermediate Macroeconomics Theory. I loved that class it gave me much broader application and knowledge of economics beyond households and firms. Learning about national and global economy with emphasis on factors like policies, Fed involvement, budget, etc. was both interesting and valuable for building my foundational base in economics.
Grace Richard | Major: Design Innovation and Society and Mechanical Engineering | I am a Mechanical Engineering and Design Innovation and Society dual major and I am a thrower on the RPI track team. I wanted to have a more hands-on curriculum and get to have a higher focus on the creative side of engineering. DIS is allowing me to create my own prototypes and products, and I get to dive into the societal impact of engineering decisions. After I graduate, I hope to get a job working as a product development engineer creating concept designs and prototypes. | Favorite Class: I really loved design studio II! I got the opportunity to work with a local antique shop owner and create a product that both fulfilled a need for her business, but also matched her shop’s aesthetic. It is very hands-on and project based which I really enjoyed.
