Open-Rank Tenure-Track Position: Game Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning

The Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS) Program in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applications for an open-rank, tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment in Game Analytics to begin Fall 2022. This position is part of an Institute-wide hiring initiative for multiple positions in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The ideal candidate will have a program of research in
algorithm development and applications that advance both AI and Games in areas such as Philosophy and Theory of Play & Games, Game Data Mining, User Experience Design in Games, Player Modeling and Analytics, or Ethics in Games. This position will join an interdisciplinary program, with faculty from the Departments of Cognitive Science, Arts, Communication and Media, Science and Technology Studies, and Computer Science; and will work with colleagues in departments and centers across the university to advance research in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences Program is a nationally recognized program in game studies and game development and a New York State Center of Excellence.  Housed in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, we offer a B.S. in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Critical Game Design. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent at the time of appointment. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, as there are multiple opportunities. The application process is a rolling one, with the applicant pool being reviewed multiple times per semester. For consideration for a Fall 2022 appointment, applications should be received no later than December 1, 2021. In addition to the required components of the application listed in the hire, applicants should indicate in their cover letter their interest in the Program in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences.
