Multiple Open-Rank Tenure Track Positions – Computational Cognitive Modeling and AI/ML
The Cognitive Science Department in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is part of an open-rank tenure-track campus-wide faculty cluster hire to advance research in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML). The position will begin in Fall 2022. The Cognitive Science Department offers B.S. programs in Psychological Science, Cognitive Science, and Philosophy, and M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs in Cognitive Science.
The Department is seeking candidates whose specialization is in diverse areas of computational cognitive modeling such as cognitive architectures, computational neuroscience, computational linguistics, cognitive robotics, cognitive systems, and related areas. The ideal candidate will concentrate their research on how to use insights into human cognition to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. Of particular interest are research programs aimed at making AI systems more transparent and explainable to end-users in human terms to foster the confident adoption of AI in high-stakes application domains.
The successful candidate will have clear ideas about how to involve students in their research and will actively participate in seeking external funding and forming joint research programs with colleagues in the Cognitive Science department and other departments at Rensselaer.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent at the time of appointment. For appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level, candidates must have an established record of successful research, teaching, and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate level and have attained a national and/or international reputation for their research contributions. For appointment at the Assistant Professor level, the candidate is required to have a record of successful collegiate teaching and a research program of exceptional promise.
Rensselaer’s Cognitive Science Department offers undergraduate programs in Cognitive Science, Philosophy, and Psychological Science, and a Ph.D. degree program in Cognitive Science.
