A Lifted Lamp - Albany Pro Musica with RPI Concert Choir

October 18

3pm-5pm

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

The RPI Concert Choir is honored to join Albany Pro Musica for A Lifted Lamp, a powerful concert celebrating the voices, stories, and enduring spirit of the American experience. Inspired by Emma Lazarus's iconic poem The New Colossus, whose words welcome the world at the Statue of Liberty, the program explores themes of hope, belonging, resilience, and the promise of a better future through an inspiring collection of choral works.

The RPI Concert Choir will join Albany Pro Musica to sing Roy Ringwald's stirring choral setting of Irving Berlin's "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor," which draws upon the immortal words of Lazarus's poem. First written in 1883 to support the construction of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal, the poem has become one of America's most enduring expressions of welcome and compassion. Ringwald's setting transforms these familiar words into a moving musical affirmation of the ideals of freedom, dignity, and opportunity that continue to resonate today.

The RPI Concert Choir is proud to participate in a performance with one of the Capital Region's premier choral ensembles that reflects the power of music to foster empathy, encourage dialogue, and bring communities together. Under the artistic leadership of Dr. José Daniel Flores-Caraballo, Albany Pro Musica is widely recognized for creating thoughtful programs that pair exceptional artistry with timely and meaningful themes.

Join the RPI Concert Choir and Albany Pro Musica for an afternoon of music that celebrates the stories that shape our communities and reminds us of the enduring light held "beside the golden door."
