GSAS Lecture Series: Paolo Pedercini " Playing in the Dark"

CBIS, Isermann Auditorium

February 15, 2018 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Molleindustria [soft industry/soft factory] is a project of reappropriation of video games, a call for the radicalization of popular culture, an independent game developer. . The project has spawned satirical business simulations (McDonald's Video game, Oiligarchy), meditations on labor and alienation (Every day the same dream, Unmanned),  playable theories (To Build a Better Mousetrap, A Short History of the Gaze), alternative SimCities (Nova Alea), and many politically incorrect pseudo-games.
Paolo will talk about his 15 years of political gamemaking, the state of satire under Trump, gaming utopias, protest games and playful resistance, neo-arcades and community building.

Paolo Pedercini is a game developer, artist, curator, and educator. He teaches digital media production and experimental game design at the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. Since 2003 he works under the project name “Molleindustria” producing experimental games tackling a variety of social issues.
