The Art_X Symposium on Music, Sound and Mathematics is the first major Art_X sponsored symposium investigating intersections of the Sciences and Art.  The Symposium focuses on current practices in the field, as well as new and novel approaches represented by research from around the Institute. 

The Keynote presentation for the Symposium at 1:00 will be delivered by Internationally recognized composer and researcher, Dr. Gareth Loy, who’s talk, "A Theory of Musical Interest," will investigate the question of how information theory underpins music theory. He will examine the question of what makes some music more successful than others through the lens of the foundational mathematics of information and music theories, coupling basic concepts of cognitive psychology with information theory and music.
