Paul Miyamoto studied painting at the Otis Parsons School of Art & Design and has over thirty years of graphic design experience in the entertainment and publishing industry in Los Angeles and New York. Clients included: Paramount Home Video, CBS Television, A&M Records, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Westways Magazine, Empire State Report, Times-Union Newspaper and the Williams College Alumni Review Magazine.

His paintings are based on the notion that vernacular images can inspire a wide range
of emotional responses. Thus, a cloud, a car, a river of water may connect with a universal consciousness – a nuance, a recollection, a feeling, and a memory. Miyamoto’s work as an instructor of visual communication at Rensselaer has facilitated the intersection of his graphic design profession with his studio art practice.

His current focus is on regional cultural institutions, non-profit organizations and local start-up businesses. Recent projects include: Exhibition graphics for the Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition at Chesterwood 2013, and a new public way-finding signage system for Chesterwood, A National Historic Trust Site in W. Stockbridge, MA; Brand identity for Hudson-Whitman Publishing in Albany, NY; Exhibition graphics For the Public Good, Rensselaer County Historical Society, Troy, NY; Brand identity for the Museum Association of New York; Troy Waterfront Farmer’s Market; Market Block Books and the Placid Baker all in Troy, NY. Recent exhibitions include: True North, MIA Gallery, Miami International Airport, Miami, FL; No Eyes, Brooklyn Zen Center, Brooklyn, NY; Grey Matters, Albany International Airport, Albany, NY; An Armory Show, Opalka Gallery, Sage College, Albany, NY and 2013 Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region, Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, NY. His artwork is in the collection of the Munson Williams Proctor Institute, Utica, NY and in numerous private collections.
