The McKinney Writing Contest is Rensselaer's writing competition for undergraduate and graduate students. All enrolled students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that the competition affords. Prizes are awarded in both undergraduate and graduate divisions across a range of different categories. Awards are $300 for first prize, $175 for second prize, and $75 for third prize. Occasionally, when the quality of entries warrants it, honorable mentions will be awarded. This year, student winners will receieve their prizes from Pulitzer Prize winning author Richard Russo at the awards ceremony in April. Winners also have the opportunity to be considered for publication in the university's magazine, Statler & Waldorf. Even if a student does not win a prize, he or she will gain practice in writing that will help them to develop a valued capability in their respective profession.
Students can start the process now by reading about the contest and its guidelines on the contest's website: www.cm.rpi.edu/pl/mckinney.
