Composer and electronic music pioneer Neil Rolnick will perform SoloS, a program of works for solo laptop that spans his career from the late 1970s to the present. The performance includes a range of works from early pieces for digital sampler to his multimedia collaboration with experimental filmmaker Barbara Hammer.
Among the first composers to integrate computers into live performance, Rolnick has presented his music internationally, with recent appearances in Cuba, China, Korea, Mexico, and across the U.S. and Europe. While much of his work engages the relationship between music and technology, it remains deeply melodic and accessible. Critics have praised Rolnick’s music as “sophisticated,” “hummable and engaging,” and marked by “good senses of showmanship and humor.
Presented by the Arts Department and the Center for Deep Listening.
