Visiting Critic Lane Relyea will give a lecture titled "Friendship, Community and Other Neoliberal Propaganda in Recent Art and Culture".
Lane Relyea is Associate Professor of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University. His essays and reviews have appeared in such magazines as Artforum, Afterall, Art in America, Flash Art, Frieze, Parkett, Modern Painters and Texte zur Kunst. He has published numerous monographs on leading contemporary artists and contributed to such exhibition catalogs as Helter Skelter and Public Offerings (both Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, 1992 and 2001 respectively) and, more recently, Ordinary Pictures (Walker Art Museum, 2016). His book Your Everyday Art World, a study of the effects of communication networks on artistic practice and its contexts, was published by MIT Press in 2013.
